LyricsGod's body is the world in every woman, man, boy and girl. The pow'r of grace and love is just as strong as it was When the first song of life was heard. God's body is the world. In your next-door neighbor's living room a new creation grows. And the same creation grows in you and in everyone you know. So when strength and soul are wearing thin, know that God is real. God is closer than your very skin, feeling everything you feel. Our creator lives in ev'ry race that dwells upon the earth; in ev'ry creature, ev'ry place, in the plants and in the dirt. She has given us the world to keep for better or for worse. So will we sow what she wants to reap? Will we bless or will we curse? God's body is the world in every woman, man, boy and girl. The pow'r of grace and love is just as strong as it was When the first song of life was heard. God's body is the world. Far beyond the skies, God surfs the Milky Way. God's foolishness is wise, unbound by time and space. In our solar system's planetoids, in quarks and photon rays, God is filling up the darkest voids turning nighttime into day. He connects the smallest with the large, linking everything as one, and then redeems the darkness in our hearts becoming Jesus Christ the Son! God's body is the world in every woman, man, boy and girl. The pow'r of grace and love is just as strong as it was When the first DNA was curled. . God's body is the world. We may run out of time, but God is holding the line. We're stuck in time and space, but God has infinite grace. Though we may fall again, we'll be redeemed in the end. For God's body is the world. God's body is the world. |
InspirationProcess Theology and particularly the writings of Marjorie Suchocki really made sense to me when I was introduced to them in seminary. Along with my fascination for space and astronomy, the ideas of God's being intimately connected with every bit of creation helped to birth this song. The first time I performed it was at an open mic "coffee house" session during the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Denver, CO. I gave chord sheets to my friend Bruce Fowlkes and we winged it. It was a blast!
