There are traditional colors worn during different times of the liturgical year.  Not all traditions follow this pattern, but it is quite common.  There is some variation, but generally they are as follows:

bullet

Christmas: White

bullet

Epiphany: White

bullet

Lent: Purple

bullet

Easter: White

bullet

Pentecost: Red

bullet

Ordinary Time: Green

bullet

Advent: Purple

Blue is generally considered an appropriate alternative to purple during Lent and Advent.  Red is traditionally worn for ordinations.

Most of my stoles are some variation of these major liturgical colors.  Some are not as I am not entirely traditional nor are all of my customers.
