LyricsWhen lambs lie with wolves without fear for their lives, When thrown in the furnace we somehow survive, When violence is silenced and peace rises high, We're not far from the Kingdom of God. When everyone's fed and has clothing to wear, When kings become servants with crosses to bear, When crowns are thrown down in a soft humble pray'r, We're not far from the Kingdom of God. We're not far from the Kingdom of God. When men accept women as equals in worth, When people find courage to care for the earth, When justice rolls down and creation gives birth, We're not far from the Kingdom of God. We're not far from the Kingdom of God. A kingdom, a realm of freedom, where all people have what they need. A time and a place for the whole human race just like Jesus our Teacher decreed. When we love our God with all of our hearts, With all understanding, with all that we are, When we love our neighbor, we can't be that far, We're not far from the Kingdom of God. When politics benefits all people's lives, When money does more than just self-multiply, When life has more meaning than what we can buy, We're not far from the Kingdom of God. We're not far from the Kingdom of God. A kingdom, a realm of freedom, where all people have what they need. A time and a place for the whole human race just like Jesus our Teacher decreed. We're not far from the Kingdom, not far from the Kingdom, Not far from the Kingdom of God. |
InspirationAs Minister of Fine Arts at Beargrass Christian Church, I composed this song to illustrate the scripture passage where Jesus tells one of the scribes, "You're not far from the Kingdom of God." I wrote it on a Saturday and presented it in worship the next day.
