Lyrics

She built her house on the corner down the street,
now she's on the roof making noise.
She calls me out from the depths of my deceit
to a healin' home for wayward girls and boys.

Sweet Wisdom, Sweet Wisdom
Sweet Wisdom fills my soul
Sweet Wisdom, Sweet Wisdom,
Sweet Wisdom fills my soul.

Early in the mornin' I can hear her callin' me:
"Come along to my house restless one."
When I heed her warning and I let her comfort me,
then I feel the warmth of God's rising son.

Sweet Wisdom, Sweet Wisdom
Sweet Wisdom fills my soul
Sweet Wisdom, Sweet Wisdom,
Sweet Wisdom fills my soul.

Other voices call to me, from the tow'rs of ivory,
Another temptress still may catch my eye.
But I know someone who waits for me,
I know a house that's built for me.
And the emptiness will fade in the mornin' light.

Sweet Wisdom, Sweet Wisdom
Sweet Wisdom fills my soul
Sweet Wisdom, Sweet Wisdom,
Sweet Wisdom fills my soul.

I look beyond the signs to the one who calls my name.
She's the heart who beats with us in time.
I'm lookin' down the road to where I'll lay my heavy load.
Now I know someday I'll make her mine.

Sweet Wisdom, Sweet Wisdom
Sweet Wisdom fills my soul
Sweet Wisdom, Sweet Wisdom,
Sweet Wisdom fills my soul.

Inspiration

The International Women's Fellowship of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was putting together a compilation CD of Disciple's artists for their Quadrennial Assembly in 1998.  The songs were to address the theme "Rekindle the Flame".  A previous recording of this song was included on that CD.

My friend Scott Tyring and I met in seminary and really enjoyed making music together.  This song came together as we explored the various biblical images of God.  Wisdom, a feminine image of God is evident in Proverbs.

(Especially inspired by Chapters 8 & 9)
